Purpose: Cook or bake food using the sun’s energy.
Materials:
A cardboard box (larger shoe box or shipping box)
Aluminum foil
Black construction paper
Plastic wrap
Glue or tape
Scissors
Ruler
A stick or pencil (to prop the lid open)
Steps:
Prepare the Box:
Cut a flap in the lid of the box, leaving one side attached. This flap will act as a reflector.
Line the Interior:
Cover the inside of the box and the underside of the flap with aluminum foil, shiny side out. Use glue or tape to secure it.
Add Black Paper:
Line the bottom of the box with black construction paper to absorb heat.
Seal with Plastic Wrap:
Stretch plastic wrap tightly across the opening of the box, sealing it to trap heat.
Adjust the Reflector:
Prop the flap open with a stick or pencil to direct sunlight into the box.
Cook Your Food:
Place your food (e.g., s’mores, small baked items) inside the box, close the lid, and let the sun do the cooking!
